Mushroom Sauce
Green Beans
  1. Bring water to a boil in a large pan.
  2. Add green beans.
  3. Cook to your desired doneness then transfer to ice water to stop the cooking process.
  4. Drain and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Pour onions into a large bowl.
Crispy Topping
  1. Melt 1 Tbsp butter in a large pan.
  2. Add sliced onions and cook until golden brown.
  3. Transfer onions to a large bowl.
  4. Melt another Tbsp of butter in the same pan.
  5. Add Panko breadcrumbs and cook until golden brown.
  6. Stir browned Panko breadcrumbs into the onions.
  7. Stir in Parmesan cheese and seasonings. Set aside.
Mushroom Sauce
  1. Again, in the same pan, melt 2 Tbsp butter.
  2. Add mushrooms and cook until tender.
  3. Add garlic and cook about 2 more minutes.
  4. Sprinkle in flour and cook until pasty.
  5. Add broth and milk until thickened.
  6. Add parmesan cheese, salt and pepper.
  7. (You can thicken the sauce with more cheese or thin it with more milk)
  1. Stir green beans into the mushroom sauce. Just enough until it has the green bean to sauce ratio that your family is used to.
  2. Add about 1/4 of the onion topping to the mushroom sauce and stir.
  3. Pour into a dish (coated with oil)
  4. Top with remaining onion topping.
  5. Bake at 375 for 25 minutes.
