I absolutely love protein bars and, of course, chocolate! But so many of the store-bought bars have unhealthy sweeteners and additives. So I came up with my own version.
Two added benefits to homemade bars is that they are easy to make and much less expensive than what you would pay in the store.
This same recipe can also be shaped into bars.
These are chewy and will soften so make sure you keep them refrigerated until you are ready to absolutely enjoy biting into them!
- 2 c oatmeal I used quick cooking
- 1 c nut butter I like peanut butter (call me old fashioned)
- 1/2 c honey raw, unfiltered
- 1/3 c whey protein vanilla
- 12 oz chocolate chips I use dark chocolate or semi sweet
- Stir together the first 4 ingredients in a large bowl.
- Shape into balls or bars.
- Place in freezer for 30 minutes.
- Two minutes before the balls are ready, melt chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. Check every 20 seconds. When nearly melted, remove and stir. Second option: Melt in a double broiler on the stovetop on low heat.
- Dip balls into the melted chocolate and place on a plate or parchment paper to harden. (Drizzle for less calories.)
- Store in refrigerator.
- Note: The chocolate may melt in your hand if you take too long to eat one. If you like to enjoy yours at a slow pace, I suggest making them into small balls or bars and drizzling them with the chocolate. (Either way - ENJOY!
God-given health benefits I enjoy from these delicious ingredients:
Oatmeal: may lower risk of "bad" cholesterol for heart health, prevent constipation, reduced risk of colon cancer.
Peanut butter: may help lower risk of high blood pressure, fortifies bones and muscles, antioxidants.
Honey: may fight allergies, boost memory, boost energy.
Whey protein: may lower blood pressure, promote muscle growth, reduce inflammation, fight diabetes.
Semi-Sweet Chocolate: antioxidants, heart and brain health, healthy skin.
Coconut Oil: brain health, increases good cholesterol for my heart, and lubricates joints.

OATMEAL CAN ALSO HELP INCREASE MILK SUPPLY FOR NURSING MOMS. MAKE SURE IT IS ORGANIC, NOT GMO. MAKE SURE THE WHEY PROTEIN IS CONCENTRATE AND NOT ISOLATE PROTEIN. AND LAST, DO NOT GIVE RAW HONEY TO CHILDREN UNDER ONE YEAR OLD.

Thank you Kay! I really like Natural Factors for my protein. Do you have a brand you recommend? As for the organic, I didn’t make that switch when I was cured. And I don’t focus on that in my recipes because I am wanting to help people who are new to eating healthy. But if you can, it’s always best. As for the raw, some doctors even advise not giving honey to children under 2. There’s a lot to learn isn’t there? Thank you for joining me on my journey – and keep commenting – it’s great to hear from you!
